Philipsburg is the home of the oldest operating elementary school in the state. After survival, the two most important things in the settlers' minds were church and education. Contrary to many portrayals, most who traveled west to settle didn't do so because they were failures, malcontents, or uneducated. The majority were relatively educated and most were faithful church-goers.

Family men worked hard to provide and were expected to go to extremes to insure the well being of their families. They were here in the rugged west to insure a future for their families. It was the future that had promise; the future that allowed prosperity for their children. For the future they toiled and built the things to bring their children and new communities security and stability.

Philipsburg School District #1, Granite High School, has a well-packaged program of opportunities for students from kindergarten through high school. Approximately 225 students are enrolled in the district. The student-teacher ratio averages 14-1, allowing for one-on-one attention and individualized instruction. Graduates of our high school are able to build upon the foundation received in our school and to do well in making the transition to the institutions of higher learning, vocational, military training, or the world of work. Our goal as a school is to maintain an excellent teaching and support staff in order to provide our graduating students with competence and the opportunity for success in their future endeavors.
